Sunday 23rd September 2012

Hello Friends,

It was so good to see so many of you at the Emmanuel Fun Day last Sunday. We met several newcomers who were invited to OpenHouse. It’s that time of year when we greet folk from around the world, as they begin their year/s at the University. Come and make them welcome!

Join us next Sunday afternoon, 23th September, from 2.30 pm until 4.30 pm in the ‘Lounge’ @ Emmanuel Church Centre, 43 Forest Road. Your hosts will be Clive and Judith – with other volunteers. Bring a friend with you ~ OPEN-HOUSE International Café is especially for overseas visitors to L’boro (students, academics, employees ~ married or single, children and adults); those for whom the U.K. is a ‘foreign’ land!

If you are in touch with overseas students or academics who have arrived recently, tell them about OPEN-HOUSE. We do look forward to meeting them, so give them our website address - http://openhouselboro2006.blog.fc2.com. Better still, bring them with you!

May you all experience God’s wonderful blessing,

Dates & Events for your 2012 Diary ~~~

Blessed Britain

“How lucky you are, Britain, more blessed than any other land, endowed by nature with every benefit of soil and climate. Your winters are not too cold, your summers not too hot; your corn fields so productive, your herds innumerable, the dairy herds overflowing with milk, the sheep flocks heavy with wool. To make life all the more pleasant, your days are long and your nights short, so while to us the sun may appear to go down, in Britain it merely seems to go past!”

from a panegyric to the Emperor Constantine – AD 310
(‘panegyric’ = formal public commendation)

As your time at the University draws to a close many of you will be returning to your home countries to begin the next phase of your lives. Please tell me when you are leaving so I can adjust the e-mail circulation list.
