Sunday 2nd December 2012

Hello Friends,

We enjoyed a superb Christmas Dinner last night, with nearly 70 people sitting down to a delicious roast turkey meal, a dramatic presentation of the 'Journey to Bethlehem', finishing the evening with several uproarious games and a breathtaking song! All our guests were given a little glass candle-holder as a memento. Grateful thanks to Tricia Hole and her wonderful team in the kitchen, to the actors who came in to delight us, and to 'games-mistress' Naomi - indeed, to everyone who made the evening such a success. Please send me some of your photographs, and I will put them in the Open-House album. Attached is a group photograph - in your imagination include in it the families with young children (who by then were safely tucked up in bed).

Amy and Andrew are getting married this Saturday, 1st December, and they invite you to the church WEDDING ceremony. Come to Emmanuel Church at 1.45 pm (don't be late) and make your way up into the gallery where you will have an excellent view.

We meet next Sunday afternoon, 2nd December, from 2.30 pm until 4.30 pm in the ‘Lounge’ @ Emmanuel Church Centre, 43 Forest Road. Your hosts will be Philip, Becky and Wendy - and other lovely volunteers. Bring a friend with you ~ OPEN-HOUSE International Café is especially for overseas visitors to L’boro (students, academics, employees ~ married or single, children and adults); those for whom the U.K. is a ‘foreign’ land!

Also on Sunday you are invited to an International Tea @ John Storer House. It's a ‘Bring-n-Share’ meal (bring something to eat and share it with everyone) followed by a stimulating talk. All are welcome – 5 pm to 7 pm. More info at http://sfellowship.org.

May you all experience God’s wonderful blessing,

Clive

Charnwood Forest was originally regarded as part of the Forest of Arden; Charnwood being described in 1622 as “that vast and decayed forest lying on the n-w side of the County of Leicester, neere unto Loughborough, in forme somewhat square, of an hard and barren soyle, full of hills, woods, rocks, and stone torres, and dells of a kind of slate”. It is believed that the name ‘Charnwood’ is derived from ‘Gwern Wudu’ - from the Celtic ‘wudu’, meaning ‘wood’ and Old British ‘gwern’ meaning Alder, of which many once grew here.
