Sunday 23rd December 2012

Hello Friends,

Tomorrow, Thursday, there is a Free Lunchtime Concert at Emmanuel Church. Refreshments are served at 11.45 am, and the concert begins at 12.45 pm. Early birds get the best seats!

We meet next Sunday afternoon, 23rd December, from 2.30 pm until 4.30 pm in the ‘Lounge’ @ Emmanuel Church Centre, 43 Forest Road. Your hosts will be Guy and Naomi - and other lovely volunteers. Bring a friend with you ~ OPEN-HOUSE International Friendship Café is especially for overseas visitors to Loughborough (students, academics, employees ~ married or single, children and adults); those for whom the U.K. is a ‘foreign’ land!

Next Tuesday is Christmas Day, when we celebrate the Birthday of the Lord Jesus. Churches usually have a short time of celebration in the morning. Several of you have been invited for Dinner with local families. Everything stops on Christmas Day - shops, buses etc, so be prepared.

'BOXING DAY' WALK - on Wednesday, 26th. Meet Guy outside Emmanuel Church at 9.50 am, for a Circular Walk of about 2 hours. Kevin will guide you around the canal (where you might catch a glimpse of the elusive 'Loobaroo Bloater' lurking in the depths!). Wear strong shoes and bring an umbrella, waterproof coat, something to eat and a drink.

There is a nasty 'bug' around that causes vomiting and diarrhoea. It mostly affects the very young or the very old, but is also present where people live in communities - like students' shared accommodation. So remember - wash your hands before you prepare or eat food, and always, always, always wash your hands after you have used the toilet.

I shall not be sending an email letter to you all next Wednesday, but OPEN-HOUSE International Friendship Café will be as normal on Sunday 30th December.

May you all experience God’s wonderful blessing,

All is calm, all is bright
Round yon virgin mother and Child.
Holy Infant so tender and mild,
Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace.

Silent night! Holy night !
Shepherds quake at the sight:
Glories stream from heaven afar,
Heavenly hosts sing "Hallelujah",
Christ the Saviour is born !
Christ the Saviour is born !

Silent night! Holy night !
Son of God, love's pure light,
Radiant beams from Thy holy face,
With the dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth,
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth.
