Sunday 28th April 2013

Hello Friends,

It's always good to greet newcomers, and in recent weeks we have welcomed new members from Singapore, P. R. China, French Reunion, Japan and Nigeria. What a blessing it is to meet you all.

We meet next Sunday afternoon, 28th April, from 2.30 pm until 4.30 pm in the ‘Lounge’ in the Emmanuel Church HALL, 45 Forest Road. Your hosts will be Guy, Wendy and Helen with several other volunteers! OPEN-HOUSE International Friendship Café is especially for overseas visitors to Loughborough (students, academics, employees ~ married or single, children and adults); those for whom the U.K. is a ‘foreign’ land! Yes, that's right, in the HALL at the other end of the Church green.

Judith and I walked over the fields to the 'Outwoods' today (Tuesday) to enjoy the lovely sunshine and listen to the birds singing. When we returned the phone rang, and guess who? It was He Baofeng calling from Beijing; she and Yi are well, and have moved nearer to the University where she is working. Their baby is due in early September - and she sends her vey best wishes to all her friends in Loughborough - she misses the flowers, the fresh air - and you - very much.

LOCAL WALK on Monday, 6th May (public holiday). Hills, humps, hedges and horrible history - join Clive and Judith for a day's hike in our glorious local countryside. You'll need strong shoes and suitable clothes for our changeable weather - bring food and something to drink - and your camera. Contact openhouse.international.cafe@gmail.com for more info. We shall start from Hilton Castle at 10 am and return late afternoon.

May you all experience God’s wonderful blessing,

I wander'd lonely as a cloud
that floats on high o'er vales and hills,
when all at once I saw a crowd,
a host, of golden daffodils;
beside the lake, beneath the trees,
fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
Continuous as the stars that shine
and twinkle on the Milky Way,
they stretch'd in never-ending line
along the margin of a bay:
ten thousand saw I at a glance,
tossing their heads in sprightly dance.
The waves beside them danced; but they
out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
a poet could not but be gay,
in such a jocund company:
I gazed - and gazed - but little thought
what wealth the show to me had brought:
For oft, when on my couch I lie
in vacant or in pensive mood,
they flash upon that inward eye
which is the bliss of solitude;
and then my heart with pleasure fills,
and dances with the daffodils.

William Wordsworth -1804 (1770-1850)
