30th October 2013

Hello Friends,

Bbrrrrrrr 'winter drawers on'! as my great-aunt Ermintrude used to say; and if you haven't enough warm clothes there are good bargains to be had at 'Loros', 'British Heart Foundation' and other good charity-shops in town.

We all meet next Sunday afternoon, 3rd November, from 2.30 pm until 4.30 pm in the Emmanuel Church HALL, 45 Forest Road. Your hosts will be Aaron, Wendy, and Helen ~ with several other volunteers! OPEN-HOUSE International Friendship Café welcomes overseas visitors to Loughborough (students, academics, employees, residents - married or single, children and adults) - those for whom the U.K. is a ‘foreign’ land.

NOTE!! This Sunday we meet in the Church HALL
(the large building, 45 Forest Road, at the other end of the grassed area)

Please invite your overseas friends to join us on Sundays - we have travel books, games of skill, toys for the children, nice refreshments - and especially the opportunity to make new friends, learn about different places, and practice your English.

Also on Sunday, there will be an International Tea @ John Storer House from 5 pm to 7 pm. It's a ‘Bring-n-Share’ meal followed by a stimulating talk by a visitor from the Faroe Islands (where are they?). More information from 01509 213447.

Next Tuesday we Brits celebrate 'Guy Fawkes Night' (or Bonfire Night) with bonfires, fireworks and baked potatoes. Lots of fun and noise, but what is it all about? Ask one of the volunteers on Sunday to find out how this traitor was foiled from blowing up the Houses of Parliament hundreds of years ago - it's a gory story!

On Sunday we shall have tickets for the Annual OPEN-HOUSE Christmas Dinner & Party. For just £4 each you can enjoy a sumptuous meal, a special journey back in time, and a party. WOW. It will be on Tuesday, 26th November. Tickets will only be available at OPEN-HOUSE, so buy yours now before they sell out.

May you all experience God’s wonderful blessing,
